Kottaras' 4 hits lead Pawtucket's attack to victory


On Friday, Pawtucket defeated Charlotte 6-5. Charlie Zink pitched 7 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 4. Beau Vaughan pitched a scoreless inning of relief to pick up his first AAA win. For the offense, George Kottaras went 4 for 4 with 1 home run and 4 RBI. Sean Danielson chipped in at the plate going 2 for 3 with a walk while Joe Thurston went 1 for 4 with an RBI in the victory.


Portland dropped the completion of their suspended game from 8/7 to Connecticut 1-0. Kris Johnson suffered the defeat after pitching 3 and 1/3 innings prior to the game being suspended. He gave up an earned run on 3 hits while recording 6 strikeouts. Ryan Khoury recorded 2 hits while Lars Anderson, Zach Daeges, and Jorge Jimenez each recorded a hit in a quiet game at the plate for the Sea Dogs.

Portland won the regularly scheduled game 7-5 over Connecticut. Dave Gassner pitched 5 innings giving up 8 hits, 5 earned runs, and struck out 2 to pick up the win. Daniel Bard pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the save. Bard struck out 3 batters and gave up 1 hit. For the offense, Argenis Diaz belted his first home run of the season and Aaron Bates added a 2-run shot to add to the scoring. Zach Daeges and Jorge Jimenez both had 3 hit games to pace the attack in the win.

Lancaster defeated Rancho Cucamonga 8-6. Chris Jones pitched the first 5 innings without giving up a run. Bryce Cox struggled out of the 'pen giving up 5 earned runs on 6 hits in 2/3 of an inning of work. Cody McAllister pitched a scoreless final inning to earn the save. On offense, Yamaico Navarro continued his torrid pace at the plate going 3 for 5 with an RBI. Luis Exposito drove in 2 runs while adding 3 hits and scoring a run. Mike Jones hit a 2-run double and Luis Segovia added a run scoring hit in the victory.

Greenville was edged out by Kannapolis 3-2. Terumasa Matsuo fired 7 innings of shutout baseball giving up 3 hits and striking out 5, but Felix Ventura could not hold the lead giving up 3 earned runs on 3 hits in his inning of work to suffer the defeat. Carlos Fernandez had 2 hits and drove in a run in a quiet night at the plate for the Drive.

Lowell dropped a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Brooklyn. Yeiper Castillo threw 3 and 1/3 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 4 hits while recording 5 strikeouts and 4 walks to suffer the loss. Rafael Cabreja went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI along with Deshaun Brooks adding an RBI hit for the offense.

The GCL Red Sox were off yesterday

The DSL Red Sox won 6-5 over the DSL Giants. Manuel Rivera pitched 3 innings giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits with 2 strikeouts. Darlin Machiz pitched 3 innings of scoreless baseball to earn the victory. Machiz gave up 1 hit, struck out 3, and walked 3 in the outing. For the offense, Eddie Lora lead the attack going 2 for 3 with a homer and 5 RBI. Leonel Escobar added 2 hits and Rafael Espinoza drove in a run in the victory.
