Daeges 4 RBI night leads Portland to blowout win


On Thursday, Pawtucket edged out Rochester 7-6. Michael Bowden started his first game at McCoy Stadium and pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up 5 earned runs on 9 hits while striking out 6. Jon Switzer pitched 1 inning giving up a run on 3 hits to pick up the win. Jeff Bailey went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and a walk while George Kottaras went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI. Chris Carter went 1 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI in the win.

Portland blasted New Hampshire 13-6. Dave Gassner pitched 5 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 9 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1 to pick up his 4th win of the season. Zach Daeges went 4 for 5 with a double and 4 RBI while Lars Anderson went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 walks. Jorge Jimenez went 3 for 6 with a RBI while Josh Reddick and Argenis Diaz each had a hit and 2 RBI apiece.

Lancaster fell in the bottom of the 9th to Inland Empire 6-5. Chris Province pitched 5 2/3 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1. Cody McAllister blew the save in the 9th inning giving up 2 runs. Daniel Nava went 2 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI while Luis Segovia went 2 for 4 with a RBI. Jason Place went 1 for 4 as he hit his 14th home run of the season.

Greenville shut out Rome 3-0. Felix Doubront in likely what was his last start for the Drive pitched 6 innings giving up no runs on 2 hits while striking out 8. Lance McClain pitched the final 3 innings giving up 1 hit and striking out 3 for his 2nd save of the season. Jered Stanley went 1 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI while each Carlos Fernandez and Ryan Kalish each went 2 for 4 with a run scored apiece.

Lowell defeated Staten Island 7-2. Kyle Weiland pitched 5 innings giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1. Jorge Rodriguez pitched 2 scoreless innings of relief striking out 4. Kade Keowen went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI while Zach Gentile went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI. Deshaun Brooks, Mitch Dening, Ryan Dent, and Rafael Gil each had 2 hits for the Spinners.

In the Gulf Coast League the Red Sox fell to the Pirates 4-2. Pedro Perez got the start and went 3 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 4 hits while striking out 3. Jennel Hudson and Dennis Neuman each pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Chih-Hsiang Huang went 2 for 4 with a home run and a RBI while Wilfred Pichardo went 2 for 4 with a run scored in the loss.

And in the Dominican Summer League the Red Sox beat the Chicago Cubs #2 3-0. Javier Jimenez pitched 6 shutout innings giving up 2 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2. Felix Sanchez went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and Eddie Lora went 1 for 2 with a double, RBI and 2 walks.
