Timlin back, Smith down
The Red Sox are expected to activate RHP Mike Timlin from the disabled list (knee tendinitis) and will return RHP Chris Smith to Pawtucket in a corresponding move. Smith, who last pitched June 30 at Tampa Bay, was 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in three appearances with the Red Sox, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out and walking four.
