Sox sign first rounder Casey Kelly

The Red Sox have reportedly announced the signing of first round pick (# 30 overall) SS/RHP Casey Kelly. In the field Kelly, son of former big league catcher Pat Kelly, shows good athleticism, agility and arm strength, with power potential at the plate. It is expected that the Sox will allow him to begin his professional career at short, which is reportedly his preference, although there has been speculated that the Red Sox believe he will ultimately be a pitcher. As a pitcher Kelly features a low-90s fastball, a hard curve which has been highly touted in some circles and a change, all with good command. Kelly will report to the GCL Red Sox. He had committed to Tennessee to play baseball and football, and was a highly regarded quarterback recruit.
