Hansack throws rain shortened 2 hitter
7/19 Cup of Coffee: Last night Pawtucket downed Toledo 6-1 in a rain shortened 7 inning game. Devern Hansack (5-9) went the full seven innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits. He did not walk a batter while recording 8 Ks. Chris Carter went 2 for 3 and scored a run. David Ortiz went 1 for 2 with another home run, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.
The Portland / Trenton game was postponed.
Lancaster doubled the score on San Jose 6-3. Chris Jones (5-5) pitched 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 BB. He had 2 Ks. Derrick Loop threw 3.2 frames allowing 1 run on 5 hits and 2 BB. He had 1 K. Jason Blackey got the final out on a strikeout after yielding 1 hit. Daniel Nava went 2 for 4 with a RBI. Yamaico Navarro went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Mike Jones went 2 for 4 with a RBI. Luis Exposito went 2 for 4 with a home run.
Lakeville downed Greenville 3-1. Ryne Lawson threw 6 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Jordan Craft (0-5) threw an inning and gave up 2 runs on 1 hit and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Kyle Fernandes pitched 2 clean innings fanning 3. The offense produced only 3 hits and no player had more than 1.
Lowell edged Mahoning Valley 4-3. Drake Britton went 3 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 4 BB. He had 2 Ks. Hunter Strickland threw 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 BB. He had 2 Ks. Mitch Herold pitched a scoreless 9th allowing 1 hit and 1 BB. Jonathan Hee went 2 for 5 with a RBI. Mitch Dening went 2 for 4 and scored 2 runs.
The Gulf Coast League Red Sox split a doubleheader with the Orioles. They lost the first contest by a score of 5-1. Jeremy Kehrt (0-1) went 4 innings giving up 5 runs on 10 hits. He had 4 Ks. Armando Zerpa threw 2 scoreless frames allowing 1 hit. Wilfred Pichardo went 2 for 4. Roberto Feliz went 2 for 2 and scored a run. They came back to take the second game by a 7-4 score. Ryan Pressly went 4 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 3 BB. He had 3 Ks. Jorge Rodriquez (1-1) went 2 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits. He had 1 K. Dustin Mercadante pitched a clean final frame. Andrew Frezza went 3 for 3 and scored 2 runs.
In the Dominican Summer League, the Cubs defeated the Red Sox 4-1. Javier Gutierrez went 3 for 4 in the game.
