Colon to DL, Smith up from Pawtucket
The Red Sox have placed RHP Bartolo Colon on the disabled list with a strained back and have recalled RHP Chris Smith from Pawtucket. Colon left his start on Monday after four innings with back spasms. Smith, 27, is 1-2 with a 1.52 ERA in 22 games (four starts) with the Paw Sox in 2008, allowing 7 ER on 29 hits (.197 BAA), striking out 40 while walking only 7 over 41.1 IP. He spent May 17-20 in the Red Sox 'pen but did not see action.
