Casey activated, Tavarez DFA'd
The Red Sox have designated RHP Julian Tavarez for assignment to clear a roster spot for 1B Sean Casey to return from the disabled list. The Sox have 10 days to waive, trade or release him. There has been increased media speculation that Tavarez will be dealt to the Colorado Rockies. Tavarez signed with Boston as a free agent following the 2005 season. He was 0-1 with a 6.39 ERA in 12.2 innings over 9 appearances for the Red Sox in 2008, allowing 9 ER on 18 hits and striking out six while walking nine. Casey is in the lineup for tonight's series finale at Minnesota.
