Lancaster wins suspended contest in 18 innings

4/9 Cup of Coffee: Pawtucket defeated Lehigh Valley 4-1 behind the strong start of Chris Smith who went 4 scoreless innings. He allowed 2 hits and a BB while striking out 7. Edgar Martinez went 1 2/3 innings giving up a run on 2 hits and 2 BB. Abe Alvarez picked up the win throwing 2 1/3 scoreless frames with 2 Ks. Dan Kolb went 1/3 of an inning allowing 1 hit. Lee Gronkiewicz earned the save pitching a scoreless frame while giving up 1 hit while fanning 1. Chris Carter went 2 for 2 with a run scored and a RBI. Jed Lowrie went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored.

Portland lost to Connecticut 2-1 in 11 innings. Justin Masterson threw 5 scoreless innings allowing just 2 hits. He did not walk a batter while recording 7 strikeouts. Blake Maxwell threw 5 scoreless innings allowing 4 hits and a BB. He had 3 Ks. Jason Blackey went 2 innings and did not allow a run or a hit. He gave up a BB and fanned 1. TJ Large went 3 innings and earned the win. He did not allow a run on 1 hit. He had 2 Ks. In the regularly scheduled game Inland Empire defeated Lancaster 3-1. Travis Beazley took the loss allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 BB in 5 2/3 innings. He had 6 Ks. Josh Papelbon pitched the final 2 1/3 frames. He did not allow a run or a hit. He gave up 2 BB while fanning 3. Lars Anderson went 1 for 4 with a home run.
