Spann's 2 home runs and 7 RBI power Sea Dogs to victory
8/5 Cup of Coffee: On Saturday, Pawtucket fell to Rochester 2-1 in 10 innings. Mike Burns pitched 8 innings giving up no runs on 4 hits while striking out 1. Craig Breslow pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 2 to pick up the loss. Joe McEwing went 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI. Jed Lowrie also went 1 for 4 in the loss.
Portland beat Harrisburg 18-7. Tommy Hottovy went 2 1/3 innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1. Mike James pitched a scoreless 9th giving up a hit while striking out 3. Chad Spann went 4 for 5 with a double, 2 home runs, a walk, and 7 RBI's. Cory Keylor went 4 for 5 and hit for the cycle for the Sea Dogs while driving in 2 runs and Dusty Brown went 2 for 4 with a home run and 5 RBI's in the win.
Lancaster fell to Lake Elsinore 6-3. Mike Rozier struggled again going 3 innings giving up 6 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4 and walking 3. Cody McAllister and Blake Maxwell combined to pitch 5 shutout innings. Aaron Bates went 3 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI's while Ryan Khoury went 2 for 5 with a stolen base in the loss.
Greenville beat Hagerstown 17-8. Jimmy James pitched 6 innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 3. Brantley New pitched 2 shutout innings giving up 2 hits and a walk. Paul Smyth went 4 for 6 with a home run and a RBI while Lars Anderson went 3 for 6 with 2 doubles and a RBI. Argenis Diaz went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI's while Josh Reddick went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI's. Jason Place also went 2 for 4 with 2 walks and 2 RBI's in the Drive's win.
Lowell lost to Staten Island 7-3. Jordan Craft pitched 4 innings giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 2 and walking 3. Mike Jones went 2 for 2 with a double, 2 walks, and a RBI. Rafael Cabreja and Pedro Vasquez each had 2 hits in the Spinners loss.
In the Gulf Coast League, the Red Sox beat the Orioles 3-1. Hunter Strickland pitched 3 innings giving up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1. Argenis Paulino pitched 3 innings giving up no runs on 4 hits while striking out 3. Mitch Dening went 3 for 4 with a RBI while Darren Blocker went 1 for 3 with a double, walk, and a RBI. Che-Hsuan Lin went 1 for 3 with 2 walks in the win.
And in the Dominican Summer League, the Red Sox beat the Marlins 3-0. Yeiper Castillo pitched 5 innings giving up no runs on 3 hits while striking out 5. Dennis Neuman pitched a scoreless 9th striking out 2 to pick up his 7th save. Ronald Bermudez went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk while Maykol Sanchez went 2 for 4 in the win.
Player of the Night: Chad Spann who went 4 for 5 with a double, 2 home runs, a walk, and 7 RBI's in the Sea Dogs 18-7 win over Harrisburg.
