Place's defense leads Drive to victory

8/13 Cup of Coffee: On Sunday, Pawtucket doubled the score on Syracuse by the score of 6-3. Clay Buchholz went 5 innings giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 BB. He had 9 Ks. Craig Breslow threw 2 scoreless, hitless innings allowing 1 BB. He had 4 Ks. Javier Lopez went 2/3 of an inning retiring both batters he faced. Bryan Corey finished off the last 1 1/3 innings retiring all four batters he face. He had 2 Ks. Jacoby Ellsbury went 2 for 5 with a run scored. Joe McEwing went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Jed Lowrie went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

Harrisburg edged Portland 8-7. Felix Diaz (3-1) took the loss giving up 7 runs on 7 hits and 3 BB. He had 8 ks. Carlos Almanzar threw a scoreless inning giving up 1 BB. He had 1 K. Mickey Hall went 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.

Greenville edged Lakewood 3-2. Joseph Guerra went 4 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Chris Jones (7-7) got the win going 3 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits and 2 BB. Lowell edged Hudson Valley 2-1. Miguel Socolovich (2-3) went 5 innings and did not allow a run on 2 hits and 3 BB. He had 1 K. Eammon Portice went 2 perfect innings and had 3 Ks. Adam Blackley threw 1 inning and gave up 1 run on 1 hit. He had 2 Ks. Felix Ventura pitched a perfect 9th with 1 K. Pedro Vasquez went 1 for 3 with a RBI. The Red Sox in both the Gulf Coast And Dominican Leagues were not scheduled.

Player of the Night: Jason Place who besides going 2 for 2 at the plate made 2 outstanding defensive plays. He threw out a runner trying to tag up on a fly ball and advance to third and he also made an outstanding over the shoulder catch to takeaway a potential extra base hit. He ended up crashing into the outfield wall after the play. Honorable mention to Mickey Hall.
