Hansack fans 11 over 7 innings


8/20 Cup of Coffee: Sunday's action saw Pawtucket edge Syracuse 2-1. Devern Hansack started and threw 7 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 3 BB. He had 11 Ks. Craig Breslow went 2/3 of an inning. He did not allow a run on 1 BB. He had 1 K. Travis Hughes (6-6) got the win going 1 1/3 scoreless frames. He allowed 1 hit and 1 BB. He had 1 K. Jacoby Ellsbury went 1 for 3 with a run scored. Jed Lowrie went 1 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI.

Portland lost a close one to New Britain 4-3. Chris Smith (4-8) took the loss going 6 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 10 hits. He had 5 Ks. Beau Vaughan threw 1 2/3 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits. He had a K. Andrew Dobies went the final 1 1/3 innings. He did not allow a run on 2 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Iggy Suarez went 2 for 5. Aaron Bates went 1 for 3 and scored a run. Jeff Corsaletti went 1 for 3 with a RBI.

Lancaster defeated High Desert 8-5. Dustin Richardson (2-0) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. He did not walk anyone while recording 5 Ks. Cody McAllister went an inning and gave up 2 runs on 1 hit and 2 BB. He had 2 Ks. Ismael Casillas threw 2/3 of an inning allowing a hit. Chad Rhoades pitched the final 1 1/3 frames. He did not allow a hit or a run. He gave up 2 BB. Mark Wagner went 2 for 4 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Mickey Hall went 2 for 4 with a RBI.

Rome edged Greenville 5-4. Ryan Phillips (3-3) took the loss allowing 4 runs on 3 hits and 5 BB in 3 innings. He had 2 Ks. Jorge Rodriquez went 2 innings and allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 2 BB. He had 1 K. Richie Lentz threw a strong 2 2/3 scoreless, hitless innings of relief. He gave up 1 BB while fanning 7. Josh Papelbon pitched the final 1/3 inning allowing a hit. Paul Smyth went 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Chih-Hsien Chiang went 3 for 4 with a RBI. Aaron Reza went 2 for 4.

Lowell edged Vermont 3-2 in 10 innings. Jose Capellan went 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and 2 BB. He had 4 Ks. Adam Mills threw 3 scoreless innings. He allowed 3 hits and a BB. He had 4 Ks. Willy Mota (3-3) got the win pitching the final 2 innings. He did not allow a run on 2 hits. He had 1 K. Rafael Cabreja went 2 for 2 with a RBI. Carlos Fernandez-Oliva went 1 for 4 with a home run.

The Gulf Coast League Red Sox took two games from the Orioles. The first was a completion of a game that had been suspended on Aug. 14. They took that game by a score of 3-2. Brock Huntzinger went 1 perfect inning. Jose Alvarez (3-1) went 6 frames allowing 1 run on 2 hits and 2 BB. He had 2 Ks. Ryne Miller went 2 innings giving up 1 run on 1 hit and 1 BB. He had 1 K. Victor Serrano went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Luis Sumoza went 2 for 3 with a RBI. Emmanuel Solano went 2 for 4. In the second game, the Red Sox blanked the Orioles 3-0. Emilis Guerrero threw 3 innings and did not allow a run. He gave up 3 hits but did not walk a hitter. He had 2 Ks. Armando Zerpa threw 3 scoreless innings. He allowed 1 hit. He had 4 Ks. Mauricio Mendez (2-1) pitched 2 scoreless, hitless frames. He allowed 1 BB and had 2 Ks. Ryan Dent went 2 for 3. Victor Serrano went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI.

Player of the Night: Devern Hansack who although did not earn the win, threw 7 innings allowing just 1 run while recording 11 Ks.
