8/19 Cup of Coffee: Saturday games saw Pawtucket edge Syracuse 5-4. David Pauley went 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 BB. He had 3 Ks. Edgar Martinez was charged with a blown save going 1 2/3 innings. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits. He had 2 Ks. Javier Lopez went 1/3 of an inning. He allowed 1 hit and had a K. Bryan Corey (5-8) pitched a clean 9th with 1 K. Jacoby Ellsbury went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI. Joe McEwing went 2 for 5 with a RBI.
New Britain swept a doubleheader from Portland by scores of 8-1 in the first game and 6-3 in the second. Felix Diaz (3-2) started the first game and went 5 1/3 innings. He gave up 5 runs on 9 hits and 2 BB. He had 4 Ks. Jose Vaquedano went 1 2/3 frames and allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and 4 Ks. Andrew Pinckney went 2 for 3 in the game. Tony Bajoczky started the second contest and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and a BB in 5 innings. He had 2 Ks. John Barnes (1-1) took the loss allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and a BB in an inning of work. Ryan Khoury went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Tony Granadillo went 2 for 5 and scored 2 runs. Zach Daeges went 2 for 5 and scored 2 runs. Brad Correll went 4 for 4 with a home run, 2 runs scored and 5 RBI. He is now hitting .356.
Rome defeated Greenville 7-4. Brian Steinocher went 6 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Brantley New (1-1) lasted 1 inning. He gave up 4 runs on 4 hits. He had 1 K. Chad Povich got the last out of the game striking out the only batter he faced. Matt Sheely went 2 for 4. Josh Reddick went 2 for 4 with a run scored and 2 RBI. He is now hitting .316. In one of the few games played in the Dominican yesterday, the Red Sox defeated the Yankee #2 team 6-2. Manuel Jimenez (3-0) earned the win in relief going 4 1/3 innings. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits and 2 BB. He had 6 Ks. Nelson Bonilla went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.
