Capellan strikes out 7 in Spinners win


8/2 Cup of Coffee: On Wednesday, Pawtucket fell in 10 innings to Buffalo 3-2. Clay Buchholz pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 9 and walking none. Craig Hansen pitched 1 2/3 innings giving up no runs while striking out 1 and walking 1. Bobby Scales went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk and Joe McEwing went 2 for 5 for the Paw Sox in the loss.

Portland beat Bowie 5-2. Felix Diaz pitched 5 innings, giving up a run on 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1 to pick up his third straight win. Kyle Jackson threw 3 strong innings giving up no runs on 1 hit while striking out 6. Jeff Natale went 2 for 4 with a walk and Jay Johnson went 1 for 3 with 2 walks for the Sea Dogs.

Lancaster lost to Rancho Cucamonga 7-4. Kris Johnson pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2 and walking 4. Ismael Casillas pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 2. Tony Granadillo went 2 for 4 with a triple and Mark Wagner and Ryan Khoury each went 1 for 3 for the Jethawks in the loss.

Greenville fell to Lake County 8-3. Dustin Richardson pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2. Chad Povich who recently was called up from Lowell made his Drive debut and struggled going 2 innings, giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 1 and walking 2. Reid Engel went 2 for 5 while Jonathan Egan went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks.

Lowell beat Brooklyn 2-0. Jose Capellan pitched 6 innings, giving up no runs on 2 hits while striking out 7. Adam Mills pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up 2 hits while striking out 2 and walking 2. Jorge Jimenez led the Spinners offense as he went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles. Mike Jones and Brett Lewis each went 1 for 2 with a walk.

In the Dominican Summer League the Red Sox fell to the Royals 8-7 in 10 innings. Cesar Cabral pitched the first 5 innings, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 5 and walking 4. Roberto Feliz led the offense as he went 3 for 5 with a stolen base. Wilfred Pichardo, Ronald Bermudez and Eddie Lora each went 2 for 5 in the loss.

Player of the Night: Jose Capellan who pitched 6 innings giving up no runs on 2 hits while striking out 7 in the Lowell Spinners 2-0 win over Brooklyn.
