Red Sox select Hunter Morris with 84th overall pick

The Boston Red Sox have selected 3B Hunter Morris with the 84th overall pick in the 2007 draft. Morris, a left-handed hitter out of Virgil Grissom High School in Huntsville, AL, batted .476 as a senior and hit 13 home runs. He also walked 59 times, setting the Alabama high school single season record. He possesses raw plus-power potential with average bat speed and excellent plate discipline. His swing mechanics need some work as does his defense as he an average arm and below average range. He will likely begin 2007 in the GCL if they can sign him away from Auburn.
