Masterson and Correll lead Lancaster in a must win
6/18 Cup of Coffee: Action on Sunday saw Richmond defeat Pawtucket 3-1. Abe Alvarez (4-5) started and took the loss. He lasted 6 2/3 innings allowing just 1 run on 3 hits and 4 BB. He had 4 Ks. Edgar Martinez went 1 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and a BB. He had 1 K. Craig Breslow threw a scoreless 9th giving up 2 hits while fanning 1. Michael Tucker went 2 for 3. Alex Prieto went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI.
Portland defeated Akron 3-1. Daniel Haigwood (2-3) went 6 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 2 BB to pick up the win. He had 5 Ks. Beau Vaughan went 2 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit and a BB. He had 3 Ks. Mike James earned his 11th save pitching a scoreless 9th. He gave up 1 hit and a BB. He had 1 K. Jed Lowrie went 3 for 4. Andrew Pinckney went 1 for 2 and scored 2 runs. Lancaster blasted Inland Empire 10-1. This gave them a tie for 1st place in the division at the end of the first half of the season. Under California League rules, the title will be decided in sudden death fashion when they face Inland Empire for the first time in the second half schedule. This game will take place on July 4th. Justin Masterson (5-5) went 7 innings to earn the win in a pressure packed performance. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He did not walk a hitter while fanning 7. Hunter Jones threw the final 2 innings. He did not allow a run on 1 hit and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Bubba Bell went 1 for 4 and scored 2 runs. Tony Granadillo went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.
