The Red Sox signed Taiwanese high school outfielder Che-Hsuan Lin to a minor league contract on Saturday. At 6'1" 183lbs., Lin is an athletic center fielder who likely would have been a supplemental 1st round draft pick if he was eligible for the 2007 first year player draft. He has Ichiro-like speed and a cannon for an arm. He makes good contact and has the potential to hit for power down the road. Lin reportedly turned down a greater offer from the Mariners because he wanted to play for Boston. Several other teams were also interested in Lin, who is generally considered the top prospect out of Taiwan this season. He ended up signing with the Red Sox for a $400,000 signing bonus. If Lin comes to the U.S. this season, he will likely begin his professional career in the Gulf Coast League.
