Buchholz lowers ERA to 1.82 in Portland win
6/21 Cup of Coffee: Action on Wednesday saw Indianapolis defeat Pawtucket 6-3. Jon Lester started and went 5 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 5 hits and 4 BB. He had 3 Ks. Edgar Martinez threw 2 scoreless innings. He did not give up a hit but had 1 BB. Bryan Corey (2-4) went 1 inning giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and a BB. Bobby Scales went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Chad Spann went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.
Portland split a doubleheader with Connecticut. They took the first game 6-0. Clay Buchholz (5-2) started and threw 5 shutout innings lowering his league leading ERA to 1.82. He gave up 6 hits and had 1 BB. He had 6 Ks and reached the 100K mark for the season. Barry Hertzler threw the final 2 innings. He gave up 3 hits. Jeff Corsaletti and Jed Lowrie were each 2 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI. Jeff Natale went 2 for 4 with a RBI. Dusty Brown went 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI. Zach Borowiak went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI. In the second game, Connecticut edged the Sea Dogs 2-1. Chris Smith (2-4) took the loss giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and a BB in 3 innings of work. He had 1 K. Lincoln Holdzkom threw 2 scoreless hitless innings. He gave up 1 BB and had 1 K.
