After an eight game span during which he reached base in over half his opportunities, while batting over .400, Portland's Jed Lowrie has been voted SoxProspects.com Position Player of the Week for May 5 - 12. The 23-year-old switch-hitting Lowrie hit at a .423/.559/.649 clip (1.250 OPS) against Binghampton (Mets) and Trenton (Yankees), with four doubles, one HR, batting in seven runs and scoring seven times himself. The lone game (vs. Trenton) in which he did not get a hit, Lowrie walked three times, scoring two runs, and batted in one. On the season with the Sea Dogs Lowrie is batting .227/.361/.361 (.722 OPS), with five doubles, one triple and two HR in 28 games (97 AB). Lowrie was a supplemental first round pick in 2005 (#45) out of Stanford as compensation for losing Orlando Cabrera to free agency. He spend last year with single-A Wilmington.
