7/14 Cup of Coffee


It was a busy Thursday for the Sox affiliates with a total of 8 games played including two doubleheaders. Pawtucket blanked Charlotte 3-0. Kason Gabbard started and went 7 scoreless innings. He allowed 2 hits and 2 BB while striking out 6. Jermaine Van Buren pitched the final 2 innings giving up 0 runs on 0 hits and a BB. He had 2 Ks. Ron Calloway went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Corky Miller went 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI. Trent Durrington went 2 for 3. Portland defeated Connecticut 9-4. Frank Brooks got the win going 5 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 BB. He had 3 Ks. Randy Beam pitched 2 innings allowing 1 run on 1 hit. He had 2 Ks. In Jacoby Ellsbury's debut at AA, he went 1 for 4 with a RBI. Chris Durbin went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Jeremy West went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI. Luis Jimenez went 2 for 5 with a RBI. Dusty Brown went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored. Keoni De Renne went 2 for 4. Finally in the Gulf Coast League, the Red Sox swept their doubleheader with the Reds. They took the first game 2-1 behind the strong pitching of Jorge Rodriguez. He went 6 innings giving up 0 runs on 2 hits and 2 BB. He had 4 Ks. Will Mann pitched the final inning allowing 1 run on 3 hits. He struck out 1. Jonathan Egan went 2 for 3 with a RBI. They took the second game by a more convincing 10-2 score. Joseph Guerrero went 5 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 7 hits and a BB. He had 5 Ks. Mauricio Mendez threw 1 perfect inning of relief. Jason Place went 2 for 3 with a run scored and 3 RBI. Roberto Sosa went 1 for 4 with a run scored and 3 RBI. Matt Sheely went 1 for 2 with 3 runs scored.
