Sox sign several draftees

As of Sunday, the Red Sox have already signed a number of draftees from the 2006 draft, including: Kris Johnson, Caleb Clay, Justin Masterson, Aaron Bates, Dustin Richardson, Zach Daeges, Ryan Khoury, Jordan Craft, Jorge Jimenez, Paul Smyth, Mike Chambers, Travis Beazley, and Jeff Vincent. Several other picks are expected to sign before the start of short-season ball in late June, including Jason Place, Jon Still, Kris Negron, Rafael Cabreja, Ryan Kalish, and Josh Papelbon. A few of the picks are considered "tough" signs, of which only a few may sign: Kyle Snyder, Brandon Belt, Matt LaPorta, Tyler Weeden, Lars Anderson, and Carmine Giardina. Three players, including North Carolina pitcher Daniel Bard, Rice reliever Bryce Cox, and Alabama reliever Jake McCarter are still participating in the College World Series. Bard and Cox are expected to sign.
