Cup of Coffee 4/7


It is time to sit back and take that first sip of coffee as the 2006 minor league season has begun. In AAA, Pawtucket defeated Indianapolis 3-2 behind the work of several pitchers. Abe Alvarez started and went 5 innings giving up 2 runs while striking out 5. He was followed by Cla Meredith, who threw a single hitless inning. Manny Delcarmen threw 2 hitless innings and struck out 3. Mike Buntanay pitched 1 hitless inning and picked up the win. Jeff Bailey led the hitting attack going 2 for 4 with a homer. Willie Harris also went 2 for 4. In AA, Portland lost 5-1 to Connecticut. David Pauley started and went 6 innings for the SeaDogs giving up 3 runs and he took the loss. Craig Hansen pitched 2 hitless innings and struck out 3. Luis Jiminez was 2 for 4 with a home run. In Advanced A ball, Wilmington blasted Myrtle Beach 8-2 behind the strong pitching performance of Luis Mendoza, who threw 5 innings giving up just 1 run on 4 hits. Jed Lowrie led the hitting attack going 2 for 4 with a triple and 4 RBI. Jacoby Ellsbury was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored while Ian Bladergroen went 3 for 5 with a RBI. Finally, in A ball, Greenville got by Columbus 6-1. Hunter Jones got the win pitching 3 hitless innings of middle relief. He struck out 3. Luis Soto led the offense going 2 for 4 with a RBI.
