Roster Shuffle

The Red Sox made a number of roster moves over the past 24 hours to shore up their up the bullpen and bench situation. On Monday night, Boston signed reliever Ricky Bottalico to a minor league contract and assigned him to Pawtucket. Bottalico, 35, spent all of this season with the Brewers going 2-2 with 2 saves and a 4.54 ERA. The Connecticut native has spent 12 years in the majors with a big league career mark of 33-42 with a 3.99 ERA in 562 games with 116 saves. Additionally, the Red Sox acquired lefty Mike Remlinger (along with cash) from the Chicago Cubs for minor league pitcher Olivo Astacio. Remlinger was designated for assignment by the Cubs last Friday, after posting a 0-3 mark with a 4.91 ERA in 35 games in 2005. Remlinger was activated today and Wade Miller was placed on the 15-day DL. To bolster the bench, the red-hot Kevin Youkilis was recalled from Pawtucket (yet again) in order to replace Jose Cruz Jr., who was designated for assignment after less than a week with the club. Additionally, the St. Louis Cardinals claimed ex-Pawtucket starter Chris Narveson off waivers. Narveson began his pro career in the St. Louis organization
