Cup of Coffee: Eyanson and Phillips make scoreless starts; King homers twice for Salem
6/3 Cup of Coffee: The WooSox and Sea Dogs started their weeks in style, as Worcester walked off on a wild pitch while Portland rode a great start from Anthony Eyanson to a shutout win. Marcus Phillips was excellent for Greenville and Skylar King (pictured) had a two-homer game for Salem but the Drive and RidgeYaks lost their series openers. The FCL bats put up another huge performance, while both DSL teams lost 7-3 on Tuesday afternoon.

The WooSox strung together a thrilling ninth-inning rally to send the Worcester fans home happy on Tuesday night. Mikey Romero ripped a game-tying triple to center field, part of a 2-for-4 game. His pinch-runner Tsung-Che Cheng came around to score the walk-off run on a two-out, two-strike wild pitch. Anthony Siegler recorded Worcester's only other hit on the night, going 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Worcester starting pitcher Jake Bennett threw five shutout frames to open the game, striking out four and walking three. Noah Song allowed two runs in an inning of relief but Zack Kelly and Kyle Keller were lights out over the final three innings of the game.

The Sea Dogs opened their series against Hartford with a blowout win. After two quiet innings to begin the game, the Portland bats caught fire in the third inning as Nate Baez drilled a two-run double and Brooks Brannon followed him with a two-run blast. Franklin Arias added a two-run homer of his own in the seventh inning, his 13th home run of the season. Portland picked up three more runs in the eighth inning as Miguel Bleis knocked an RBI double and Tyler McDonough roped a two-run double.
On the mound, Portland completely blanked the Yard Goats bats behind another impressive start for Anthony Eyanson. The third-ranked prospect in the system tossed five shutout innings, striking out three while allowing five hits and one walk, to lower his ERA to 2.00 through four starts in Portland. Patrick Halligan struck out four batters in three innings of relief, allowing one walk and no hits. Erik Rivera finished the game with a scoreless inning.

Marcus Phillips turned in one of his best starts of the season but the bullpen was unable to preserve an early lead for the Drive. Phillips struck out five batters while allowing one hit and two walks in 4 1/3 scoreless innings. Joe Vogatsky was rocked to the tune of seven runs (five earned) in 1 2/3 innings. Steven Brooks surrendered one run in two innings of relief. The Drive picked up a pair of early runs on RBI singles by Yoeilin Cespedes and Yophery Rodriguez but the Greenville bats were unable to make any noise afterwards. Enddy Azocar was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

The RidgeYaks were ahead for much of this game but the Warbirds grabbed a commanding lead with a monster 11-run seventh inning. Salem put together a five-run rally in the third inning highlighted by an RBI single for Stanley Tucker and a two-run blast off the bat of Skylar King. With the game solidly out of reach in the eighth inning, King added his second home run of the game as he went back-to-back with Kleyver Salazar. Tucker was 2 for 4 on the night.
Luis Cohen struggled with his control as he walked four batters but he managed to work three innings while allowing only an unearned run. Griffin Kilander allowed two runs (one earned) in 2 2/3 innings, striking out four batters. Nicolas De La Cruz, Harry Blum, and Adam Bates were all hit hard as part of Wilson's seventh-inning attack.

The FCL Red Sox put up a dominant offensive performance against the Pirates for the second consecutive day. Matt Fraizer had a big game, going 2 for 3 with a double, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. Franklin Primera was 2 for 2 with three runs and an RBI, raising his average to .396 this season. Center fielder Harold Rivas was 1 for 3 with a walk and two RBI. Sadbiel Delzine threw 4 1/3 impressive innings, punching out five batters while allowing one run on one hit and two walks. Denison Sanchez tossed 2 2/3 innings in relief, allowing one run and striking out two.

The Red Sox Blue scored all three of their runs on one swing of the bat, as Santiago Yanes cracked a three-run triple in the fifth inning. However, the bats were otherwise silent as Anderson Gonzalez recorded the only other hit of the game in a 1-for-3 day. Christopher Silvestre started on the mound and allowed four runs while walking three in 1 1/3 innings. Hicter Ruiz was fantastic in relief, going 4 2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Michael Manjarres allowed three runs in an inning.

Starter Oscar Vaamonde got off to an impressive start, striking out five of his first six hitters. Overall, he fanned seven batters in four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk. Robert Moreno surrendered four runs in three innings and Wascar Berroa threw a scoreless frame in relief. Gustavo Antunez hit his first home run of the season in a 1-for-3 game. Geomaikel Martinez was 2 for 4 and drove in a run.

Player of the Day: On a day of impressive starting pitching performances throughout the system, Skylar King was the clear standout at the plate. King went 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs, his seventh and eighth of the season, and three RBI for the RidgeYaks. A 15th-round pick out of West Virginia last season, King's impressive performance brings his season line up to .218/.318/.388.
