Cup of Coffee: Yorke goes off in WooSox big win, Anthony homers


7/3 Cup of Coffee
: Worcester and Greenville combined for 28 runs, with monster games from Nick Yorke (pictured), Bobby Dalbec, Mickey Gasper, Miguel Ugueto, and Allan Castro. Roman Anthony went deep as well for Portland in their win. The Drive pitching staff had the strikeout pitch working, as three pitchers combined for 17 strikeouts. Jojo Ingrassia pitched well for Salem despite their loss.

Nick Yorke and Bobby Dalbec led the way from the number three and four spots in the order, respectively. Yorke went 3 for 5 with two home runs, a walk, five RBI, and four runs scored. He is now hitting .348 with a .988 OPS in Worcester. Dalbec had four hits, including his 11th home run of the year as well as a double. He bumps his WooSox OPS up to .931. Mickey Gasper also stayed red hot, going 3 for 5 with two doubles and a home run, raising his WooSox OPS to a staggering 1.197 in 16 games. Nick Sogard went 3 for 6 with a double as well, while Matthew Lugo reached four times with two singles and two walks. 
 
Bryan Mata made his second appearance of the year for Worcester and was solid, tossing 2 1/3 innings and allowing just one unearned run. He struck out two and walked two. Brian Van Belle grabbed the win in relief, surrendering two runs over 4 2/3 frames with three strikeouts and no walks. Jorge Benitez closed it out with a scoreless ninth, including a pair of strikeouts.

Roman Anthony got things going early for the Sea Dogs, belting a leadoff home run in the first inning, his ninth of the year. Blaze Jordan had a big night with the bat, going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored. Eddinson Paulino was 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk, while Kristian Campbell walked and ripped an RBI double. Jacob Webb started and went the first three innings without allowing a run. He gave up just one hit and punched out two. Jonathan Brand threw two innings and allowed one run, and Robert Kwiatkowski nabbed a four-inning save. The right-hander allowed two runs and struck out a pair.

Four members of the starting lineup had at least three hits, led by Miguel Ugueto, who went 3 for 4 with a double, a home run, and four RBI. Jhostynxon Garcia and Luis Ravelo each had two singles and a double, while Ronald Rosario went 3 for 6 with three singles and two runs. Allan Castro had a huge game as well, belting two home runs in a game for the first time in his professional career. He now has seven long balls this year. Yordanny Monegro started and had an up-and-down outing, allowing four earned runs over four innings. He was missing bats though, punching out eight to tie his season-high. Zach Fogell struck out five over three innings with two runs allowed, before Reidis Sena finished off the final two innings with one run allowed and four strikeouts. The Drive as a staff punched out 17.

The Sox picked up just five hits in the loss, two off the bat of Antonio Anderson. He singled and doubled. Freili Encarnacion, Natanael Yuten, and Stanley Tucker each had singles as well. Tucker also swiped his 18th bag of the year. Jojo Ingrassia had a great outing, firing five shutout frames with five strikeouts and no walks. He threw 55 pitches, 40 for strikes. His ERA is down to 2.17 this season in 49 2/3 innings. Conor Steinbaugh struck out two in his lone inning of work.

This game was called after five innings due to rain. The Sox were just 1 for 16 at the plate, with Kleyver Salazar collecting the only knock, a single. Franklin Arias walked and stole his 18th bag of the year, while Yosander Asencio also swiped a bag. Yonfi Rodriguez started and allowed two runs (one earned) over three innings. The righty struck out four and walked a pair. Cristofer Soriano was great out of the bullpen, tossing two shutout innings with a couple of strikeouts.

In the top of the fourth, this one was halted due to rain. Charlie Zink started and got two outs before Greider Colina came on and dominated for 2 1/3 innings. The right-hander did not allow a run on just one hit and punched out six. Anderson Fermin was having a nice day at the play, roping a double and driving in a run on a sacrifice fly. Chad Delancey was also 1 for 2 with a single and a run scored. A date to complete the game has yet to be announced.

This game was also suspended due to rain in the top of the fourth inning. The Sox did not have a hit, but scored their first run when Edwin Darville stole third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. It was his seventh stolen base of the year. He reached base on a hit-by-pitch. Their other run came on an RBI groundout from Yoiber Ruiz. He drove in Josue Brito, who walked and stole a base. Dalvinson Reyes started and gave up three earned runs in three innings with three strikeouts and three walks. A date has not been set yet for the completion of the game.

Player of the Day: Nick Yorke had another huge game for the WooSox, his third three-hit game with the team. He also set a season-high (including his Portland games) with nine total bases. The 22-year old is hitting .284/.363/.428 with 14 doubles and eighth home runs in 67 games this year between Portland and Worcester.
