Cup of Coffee: Home runs for Dalbec and Duran; multi-hit games for Yorke and Rafaela

4/9 Cup of Coffee:
13 was the lucky number on Saturday with both Worcester and Portland plating 13 runs. Jarren Duran (pictured) and Bobby Dalbec starred for the WooSox, while Nick Yorke and Ceddanne Rafaela were two of the key contributors for Portland. Salem had the bats working with every player in the lineup recording at least one hit.

Seven of Worcester's nine starters had multi-hit games as they beat the Bisons. The team clubbed four home runs, led by Jarren Duran, who went 3 for 5 with a two-run home run, two doubles, and a walk. The shortstop, Bobby Dalbec, went 2 for 6 with his first home run of the year. Dalbec's home run traveled 420 feet, while Duran's went 407. Also adding home runs as part of multi-hit games were Daniel Palka and Greg Allen. Caleb Hamilton continued his strong start by going 3 for 4 with a walk.

Matt Dermody won in his organizational debut by firing five shutout innings. He allowed only two hits and struck out two. Cam Booser returned from a rough first appearance to hold the Bisons scoreless in his lone inning.

The Sea Dogs scored 13 times on 13 hits in a rout of Binghamton. Tyler Dearden set the pace by going 3 for 4 with three RBI and one of the team's eight doubles. Corey Rosier doubled twice as part of a two-hit day, while Nick Yorke and Ceddanne Rafaela each went 2 for 5. Rosier, Rafaela, and Tyler McDonough each contributed a steal. McDonough reached base four times thanks to two walks and getting hit with two pitches.

Chih-Jung Liu allowed three runs over his four innings, allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out two. Skylar Arias and Jacob Webb each threw two scoreless innings, with Arias striking out two and Webb striking out four. Dylan Spacke finished things off with a successful ninth.

Greenville Drive @ Rome Braves (ATL), PPD (rain)
While this was not the biggest sporting event in Georgia affected by rain today, the Drive's game in Rome was postponed. No makeup date has been announced.

Salem Red Sox 10, Delmarva Shorebirds (BAL) 2
A 13-hit effort combined with a magnificent four-hit response by the pitching staff was all Salem needed for a 10-2 victory on Saturday. Every starter recorded a hit in the lineup, but Lyonell James led the way with a 3-hit effort, adding 2 RBI and two runs scored. Allan Castro and Roman Anthony each had two hits for Salem. Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz pitched three innings of scoreless ball to open the game, but he walked 5. Luis De La Rosa earned the win despite giving up two runs on three hits in three innings. Brock Bell and Nathan Landry combined for one hit, no walks, and three strikeouts in three innings to preserve the win.

Player of the Day: Jarren Duran entered the day with a .661 OPS and left with a 1.102 OPS. That is what getting eight total bases in five at-bats, plus a walk, can do this early in the season. Oddly, Duran has not attempted a steal yet in five games, but he did not have many chances on Saturday with all the extra-base hits. The 26-year-old will look to keep things rolling in Worcester to see if he can force his way back up to the major league roster this season.
