Cup of Coffee: Bleis triples twice to power FCL Sox

7/6 Cup of Coffee: With all but the rookie leagues moving their usual slate to Monday to celebrate the Fourth, it was a rare quiet Tuesday. The rookie teams made plenty of noise, however, pulling off the organizational sweep. Miguel Bleis led the way in Fort Myers, while Yizreel Burnet returned to give the already-loaded Red Sox Blue squad some reinforcements.

Miguel Bleis tripled twice to key the FCL Sox victory. Bleis scored twice and drove in two, his second straight multi-hit game. Johnfrank Salazar added a pair of hits, while Cam Cannon doubled as part of his ongoing rehab from an oblique injury. Luis Perales made his first appearances since June 24 and first start since June 10. He fired three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, striking out four, and walking one. Henry Nunez and Railin Perez pitched 1 2/3 and 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief. Neither right-hander has been scored upon this season.

Team Blue won its 12th straight game and is now 20-3, already sporting a five-game lead over their closest divisional competitor, the Red Sox Red team. As if they needed any more help, big right-hander Yizreel Burnet returned to the mound, getting the start and firing a scoreless inning, The offense was spread around, with eight members of the lineup getting one hit apiece. Kelvin Diaz was 1 for 3 with a double, two walks, and three runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Marvin Alcantara picked up his fifth double of the year, while Armando Sierra drove in a pair.

A quartet combined on a four-hit shutout to overcome a 2-for-14 effort with runners in scoring position by the offense. Alvaro Mejias scattered two hits across four innings, striking out five without issuing a walk. Simon Pacheco got credit for the win in relief with three perfect frames, striking out four. The gem was complete b Ovis Portes and Royman BlancoNatanael Yuten was 2 for 5 with two doubles to lead the offense, with Freili Encarnacion also contributing a double.

Player of the Day: After a slow 1-for-16 start in the season's first four games, Miguel Bleis has an impressive .340/.359/.560 slash line in 13 games since. Yesterday's two triples gave him his seventh multi-hit game in that stretch. The 18-year-old outfielder signed for a $1.5 million bonus in January 2021 and has impressed scouts since with his tools along with the production. He is currently ranked seventh in the system by SoxProspects.com.
