Winter League Roundup: December 31-January 6


With the Caribbean League playoffs in full swing, a limited amount of Red Sox participants made an impact in winter leagues this week.

Dominican Winter League

Mauro Gomez remained one of the most consistently productive hitters for Escogido. Gomez went 5 for 18 with a home run, double, and three RBI in four games this week. Escogido is currently 5-3 in the round robin playoffs.  

Tony Pena Jr. made two appearances this week. On Thursday against Pena tossed 2 innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out two. In another 2 inning performance on Friday, Pena walked a batter and struck out two. Aguilas is currently 5-3 in the playoffs.


Roberto Clemente (Puerto Rico) Baseball League

Jose De La Torre picked up the victory on Thursday as he tossed 1 1/3 innings of relief. De La Torre allowed one run on one hit while striking out two. Caguas is currently 3-1 in the playoffs. 

Jeremy Kehrt (pictured) received the start on Thursday against Santurce and pitched a gem. Kehrt scattered nine hits over 7 innings while striking out one to pick up the victory. Mayaguez is currently 3-1 in the round robin playoffs.

Henry Ramos has seen limited action as he went 0 for 2 in three games he appeared in as a late inning defensive replacement.

Mexican Pacific League

Marco Duarte received the start on Wednesday against Mazatlan. Duarte tossed 5 innings, allowing one run on five hits and four walks while punching out six to pick up the victory. Mexicali is currently tied with Mazatlan in their series, 2-2. 

Oscar Villarreal made his first of the week in the series opener for Mexicali on Wednesday, picking up the save for 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. On Sunday, Villarreal took the loss as he allowed the game's winning run after 2/3 innings pitched. 

Australian Baseball League

Boss Moanaroa went 2 for 10 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI in three games.

Panama Professional League

Will Latimer tossed 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief across two outings, striking out three.

Anthony Amaya went 5 for 13 with a double, home run and four RBI in four games.

Pablo Urena went 2 for 10 with a RBI and a run scored in two games.
