Red Sox select Kyle Kraus in the seventh round

Kyle Kraus (University of Portland)
With their seventh-round pick in the draft, the Red Sox have selected Kyle Kraus, a right-handed pitcher from University of Portland.

Kraus, a senior, ranked as the 10th-best prospect out of the state of Oregon. The 5-foot-11, 170 pound righty features a fastball in the mid-80s. He has not been a big strikeout pitcher in his career, though he shows good control with very few walks. The 22-year-old is originally from West Linn, Oregon.

Last season as a junior, he was a All-WCC First Team selection and earned WCC All-Academic honorable mention. He posted a 4.12 ERA with a 6-5 record in 14 starts while throwing 102.2 innings, and striking out 59 against 13 walk. In his senior year season in 2012, he put up a 2.03 ERA in 111.0 innings pitched to go along with 61 strikeouts and 14 walks.
