Players of the Week, June 11-17: Matt Barnes & Travis Shaw

Winning his sixth SoxProspects.com Pitcher of the Week poll in 2012, Salem's Matt Barnes surpasses the previous single-season record of five by Clay Buchholz in 2007. In his sole start of the week last Thursday, Barnes held Carolina (CLE) to one earned run on two hits over five innings, striking out nine while walking only one and earning the win. Since being promoted to Salem April 30, Barnes owns a 5-1 record with an 1.37 ERA over eight starts, having allowed seven earned runs on 33 hits, struck out 50, walked eight, and held opposing batters to a .201 average. He is currently the second ranked prospect in the organization by SoxProspects.com.

Salem's Travis Shaw was voted last week's SoxProspects.com Player of the Week in a landslide result with only a single vote not being cast in his favor. In six games Shaw hit .455/.538/.818 with two home runs and two doubles, scoring seven runs and batting in eight. He also stole three bases. Shaw is hitting .335/.424/.591 with 11 home runs, 20 doubles and three triples in 230 at-bats over 64 games in 2012. He is currently the 22nd ranked prospect in the organization by SoxProspects.com.
