2012 Draft Recap: How the Red Sox picks ranked


With the 2012 amateur draft drawing to the close, the overarching theme is the effect of the new signing bonus rules on the Red Sox strategy. With that in mind, the Red Sox did not come away with a noticeable drop-off in talent. They took thirteen players ranked either in the Baseball America Top 500 or the Perfect Game Top 250. For comparison, the Red Sox took nine players ranked in 2011, when Baseball America only published their top 200, the same amount of top 200 players they came away with in 2012 despite having one fewer supplemental first rounder.
