Red Sox sign RHP Aaron Cook to minor league deal
Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that the Red Sox have signed RHP Aaron Cook to a minor league contract pending a physical. Cook was a free agent after the Colorado Rockies declined to pick up his $11 million contract option for 2012.
After debuting with the Rockies in 2002, Cook has spent his entire ten-year career in Colorado. He missed the beginning of 2011 after suffering a broken ring finger on his pitching hand during spring training. He returned in June, and finished the year with 97.0 innings pitched and a 6.03 ERA. The 32-year-old has a long injury history, and he has only started 30 games once over the past five years. He will battle for a rotation spot in spring training.
