Hassan and pitching lead Scottsdale to easy victory

10/5 Cup of Coffee: Alex Hassan reached base four times and Scottsdale pitched one of its best games of the season as they defeated the Phoenix Desert Dogs 9-2.

Scottsdale got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. A home run for Brandon Crawford (SF), a double for Cody Overbeck (PHI), and a single by Bryce Harper (WAS) were some of the big blows for the Scorpions.

Sammy Solis (WAS) started for Scottsdale and shut down the Desert Dogs offense. He tossed 4.0 shutout innings allowing 3 hits and striking out 9. Caleb Clay pitched out of trouble in the 8th. He loaded the bases, but struck out Roberto Perez (CLE) to end the inning without allowing a run.

Hassan went 3 for 4 with a double and a walk. Clay pitched the 8th allowing 2 hits and a walk in addition to the aforementioned strikeout. Clay has had a nice showing in the AFL thus far. He has thrown 10.1 innings allowing 7 hits and 2 runs with 3 walks and 8 strikeouts. His 1.74 ERA is impressive considering the league average ERA is approximately 5.60.

The Scorpions are off until Monday as the Rising Stars game takes place at 8:00 EST. No Red Sox prospects will be playing in the game.
