Scorpions begin Arizona Fall League action on wrong foot
10/6 Cup of Coffee: The Scottsdale Scorpions kicked off their Arizona Fall League campaign yesterday in rough fashion, being clobbered by the Surprise Saguaros.
After being postponed a day by rain, the Scottsdale Scorpions made their 2011 Arizona Fall League debut, but were flat in a 10-1 loss to the Surprise Saguaros. Scorpions pitching fell victim to four Surprise home runs off the bat of Tim Beckham (TB), Will Myers (KC) and Michael Ott (TEX) who smacked two a solo home run in the sixth and a grand slam in the eighth. Scottsdale’s lone run of the contest came in the ninth, as Brandon Crawford (SF) brought home Gary Brown (SF) on an RBI ground out.
Alex Hassan started in right field and went 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts. Ryan Dent, who came in as a late game substitution, was hitless in his lone at-bat. Brock Huntzinger hurled 2.0 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 4 to pick up the loss. Jeremy Kehrt was roughed up in his 0.2 innings of work, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and a walk, allowing 3 home runs.
The Scorpions look to bounce back this afternoon against the Salt River Rafters at 3:35 EST.
