Unable to overcome early deficit, Pawtucket falls to IronPigs in Game 1

9/9 Cup of Coffee: Pawtucket began their playoff series with Lehigh Valley (PHI) after being postponed by Mother Nature a day before. Unfortunately for the PawSox, the wait proved to not be beneficial.

The two top teams in the International League North squared off in Game 1 of a best of five series as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (PHI) doubled up Pawtucket, 4-2. Matt Fox received the start for the PawSox, going 6.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks, striking out 3. Brandon Duckworth added 0.2 innings of relief, allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 1. Tommy Hottovy provided 1.1 scoreless innings of relief out of the bullpen, walking 1 and striking out 1. Down 3-0 in the sixth, Lars Anderson led off the inning with a solo home run to put the PawSox on the board, 3-1. After the IronPigs plated another run in the seventh, Luis Exposito’s RBI ground out in the eighth brought Pawtucket within striking distance, 4-2. Unfortunately for the PawSox, they went in order in the ninth, unable to muster a rally. Pawtucket managed just 6 hits on the evening, going a dismal 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position.

Player of the Night: Lars Anderson, who went 1 for 3 with a solo home run and a walk in Pawtucket’s 4-2 loss to Lehigh Valley.
