Report: Red Sox sign fifth round selection Mookie Betts
According to Perfect Game's Kendall Rogers, the Red Sox have signed their fifth-round selection, infielder Mookie Betts.
Betts, 18, was a multi-sport athlete, playing for John Overton High School's baseball, football and basketball squads. Known as a champion bowler, Betts hit .549 with 6 home runs, 37 RBI and 24 stolen bases in his junior season in 2010. Standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing 160 pounds, Betts is a small, speedy middle infielder who has plus bat speed and top athleticism. He may eventually profile better as a second baseman after playing shortstop during high school. By signing, Betts passed on a commitment to Tennessee.
