Three Salem players selected for All-Star Game

Catcher Dan Butler, first baseman Reynaldo Rodriguez (left), and pitcher Chris Hernandez will be representing the Salem Red Sox in the High-A All-Star game in Modesto, Ca. on June 21, when the Carolina League All-Stars take on their counterparts from the California League.

Butler and Rodriguez have been fixtures in the heart of the Salem lineup this season, with one or the two leading the team in nearly every major offensive category. Among qualifying players, Rodriguez leads the team in hits (61), doubles (22), home runs (9), walks (27), batting average (.314), and OPS (.972). He was signed with the Red Sox out of the independent Golden Baseball League after failing to advance past rookie ball in the Yankees organization. Butler, who signed as an undrafted free-agent out of the University of Arizona in 2009, is batting .268 with 8 home runs and a team-leading 48 RBI in his first Carolina League season.

The only pitcher from Boston's highly-rated 2010 draft class to begin the season in High-A, Hernandez is 5-3 with a 2.52 ERA in 10 Carolina League starts. The 7th-round pick has fanned 27 batters and has a WHIP of 1.28.
