Sox ink six draft picks, two others to deals

With Lowell's season set to get underway on Friday, the roster that Spinners fans will see in 2011 is beginning to take shape.

The Red Sox have announced the signings of six 2011 draft picks: Miguel Pena (LHP, 6th round), Travis Shaw (3B, 9th round), Kevin Brahney (LHP, 11th round), Mike McCarthy (RHP, 14th round), Braden Kapteyn (1B, 15th round), and Drew Turocy (OF, 24th round). This marks the first wave of signings from the 2011 draft class, with plenty more to follow in the coming weeks and months.

In addition, the team has also signed a pair of undrafted players, Nick Natoli, an infielder out of Towson University and former Florida Gulf Coast University catcher Tim Roberson. All eight players are slated to begin their professional careers in Lowell.
