Red Sox select Cody Kukuk in 7th round
With the 232nd overall pick in the draft, the Red Sox have selected left-handed pitcher Cody Kukuk from Lawrence Free State HS (KS).At 6-4, 190 pounds, Kukuk is a big, projectable left-hander. He has sat around 88-91 MPH with his fastball, with good movement, and has touched 93 MPH. He has also shown a slider and changeup. The slider is hard and has potential, though the changeup is a work in progress.
Like most high school arms, his greatest need is repetition to gain consistency with his mechanics. He is currently very raw, but shows a loose delivery and has plenty of atheleticism to project well. He is said to have an even temperament and strong mound presence.
