Walk-off homer gives West the Rising Stars victory

11/7 Cup of Coffee: Leslie Anderson (TB) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving the West a 3-2 walk-off win in the AFL Rising Stars game on Saturday.

The East opened the scoring in the top of the first, with an RBI groundout by Brandon Laird (NYY). An error in the bottom of the second allowed the West to tie the game at 1. The very next half-inning, Austin Romine (NYY) singled home a run to give the East the lead back. In the bottom half of the inning, however, the West answered back as a passed ball allowed a run to score. The game was tied at 2, and it would remain that way all the way up until the bottom of the ninth, when Anderson led off the inning with a home run to right.

The Red Sox had two players in the Rising Stars game, both of whom cracked the starting lineup. Ryan Lavaranway was behind the plate for the first five innings, and collected a hit in his two at bats. After singling in the second, Lavarnway grounded out to third. Meanwhile, Jose Iglesias got the start at shortstop for the West team but was retired in both of his trips to the plate.

After an off day on Sunday, the Javelinas will be back in action on Monday against Surprise.
