Phoenix goes up early, Javelinas fall short

11/18 Cup of Coffee: The Phoenix Desert Dogs scored 7 run in the first three innings, and won 10-4 despite giving up 11 hits to the Javelinas.

Phoenix opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI double by Matt Wallach (LAD). The next inning the Desert Dogs took a commanding lead by plating 6 runs. After four straight singles to begin the frame, Brandon Laird (NYY) hit an RBI double. Following a ground out which scored the 4th run of the inning, starter Maikel Cleto (SEA) was replaced by Travis Turek (CLE). Turek was unable to stop the bleeding though, giving up a 2-run homer to the first batter he faced, Jose Pirela (NYY). The Javelinas answered in the fourth on a Koby Clemens (HOU) double then a home run by Eric Thames (TOR) to score 2 runs. After each team tacked on a run in the sixth, Pheonix added two more in the eighth, led by an RBI double by Stephen Parker (OAK). The Javelinas briefly mounted a comeback in the ninth, opening with a double by Jason Kipnis (CLE) then a single by Matt Lawson (SEA), but were only able to score 1 run.

No Boston players appeared in the game.

The Javelinas take on the Scottsdale Scorpions at home today at 2:35 EST.
