First inning propels Javelinas to win

11/13 Cup of Coffee: A nine-run first inning gave the Javelinas more than enough cushion on Friday as they defeated Surprise 10-3.

Juan Carlos Linares singled twice in the first inning alone, as the Javelinas plated nine runs in the bottom of the first inning. Doubles from Dustin Ackley (SEA), Roberto Perez (CLE), Matt Lawson (SEA), Jason Kipnis (CLE), and Adam Loewen (TOR) all scored runs for Peoria. Brooks Brown (DET) started the game for the Rafters, but could only retire two batters before giving way to Brendan Wise (DET), who needed six more batters before he could record the final out of the inning. After Surprise scored a run in the top of the second, Loewen doubled home another run for the Javelinas. They maintained their 10-1 lead all the way until the top of the eighth, when an Eric Hosmer (KC) double and a Hunter Morris (MIL) groundout gave the Rafters two more runs.

Juan Carlos Linares was the only player in the Red Sox organization to see action last night. He went 2-for-5 with an RBI.

The Javelinas will be back in action on Saturday with a 3:35 start against Mesa.
