Rodriguez leads GCL to win

8/1 Cup of Coffee: Much like the deadline day itself, there wasn't much going on down on the farm Saturday night, though Lowell put a rare notch in the win column against Vermont.

Pawtucket scored a run in the first, but couldn't manage much else in a 5-1 loss to Durham (TAM). Mark Holliman pitched into the third but allowed 4 earned runs on 5 hits. Fabio Castro surrendered a run in 4.0 innings, and Rich Hill added 3.0 scoreless frames of relief. Jacoby Ellsbury, Daniel Nava, and Aaron Bates each had 2 hits, while Dusty Brown drove in the PawSox only run.

Casey Kelly was shelled in his return from the DL, allowing 7 runs on as many hits in 3.0 innings in Portland's 10-0 drubbing at the hands of Harrisburg (WAS). Ryne Miller gave up 3 runs in 3.0 innings of relief, and Mitch Herold tossed 2.0 shutout innings. Luis Exposito had 2 hits and Nate Spears had 1 to account for all the Sea Dog's offense.

Salem was postponed.

Greenville had some success at the dish, but ultimately fell 6-4 to Charleston (NYY). Tom Ebert was charged with 4 runs, 3 earned in 2.2 innings. Chris Court and Armando Zerpa each allowed a run in relief, and Dennis Neuman tosses a scoreless eighth. Zach Gentile had 2 hits and a pair of RBI, and Derrik Gibson added 3 hits. Ronald Bermudez and Shannon Wilkerson drove in a run each in the loss.

In their 42nd game of the season, Lowell finally moved into double-digits in the win column with a 4-3 victory over Vermont (WAS). Tyler Wilson got the win, going 5.0 innings and yielding 2 runs, 1 earned on 4 hits. Seth Schwindenhammer and Bryce Brentz each recorded 2 hits, while Brentz, Miles Head, and Kolbrin Vitek each had an RBI. Garrett Rau allowed just an unearned run in 3.0 innings, and Wilson Matos tossed a scoreless ninth to get the save.

Juan Rodriguez struck out 5 in 5.0 shutout frames as the GCL Sox beat the Twins 6-4. Keury De La Cruz was 3 for 3 with an RBI and his team-leading sixth triple of the season, while Ken Roque and Henry Ramos had 2 hits and and RBI apiece. TJ Large tossed a perfect inning of relief before Ryne Reynoso gave up a run and Luis Bastardo gave up 3 unearned runs in an inning of work each. Justin Erasmus recorded 2 outs to earn his eighth save of the season.

In DSL action, Red Sox pitchers were tagged for 11 runs on 16 hits in an 11-3 loss to the Indians. Mario Alcantara allowed 3 runs in 3.0 innings of work, but the wheels came off when Kiler Gil and Iago Januario combined to allow 8 runs in 4.0 innings. Curtney Doran was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI to account for the only multi-hit game for the Red Sox.

Player of the Night: Juan Rodriguez allowed just 3 hits and struck out 5 in 5.0 scoreless innings for the GCL squad.
