Players of the Week, August 16-22; Henry Ramos and Tyler Lavigne

The SoxProspects.com community has voted Henry Ramos and Tyler Lavigne the Player and Pitcher of the Week for this past week.

In a week that started with many 2010 draft picks signing their first official deals with the team, Ramos, a Red Sox fifth-round selection, made news with his bat rather than his signing bonus. He picked up 9 hits in 22 at bats with the GCL Red Sox, while also swiping 2 bases. The 18-year-old's 8 RBI were most among Red Sox minor leaugers last week. His big night came on Wednesday, when he went 2-for-4 with a home run and a triple, and tacked on 4 RBI as well.

Meanwhile, Lavigne's relief outing for Lowell against Vermont on Thursday earns him the nod. Coming in to the game with his team already trailing 7-0 in the first inning, the right hander spun five innings of shutout, one-hit ball out of the bullpen. While the Spinners went on to lose the game 10-9, Lavigne's performance gave his team a chance at a comeback. The 22-year-old is a newcomer to the Red Sox system after being signed out of the Frontier League in July.

In other minor league award news, Ramon A. Ramirez was named the International League's Pitcher of the Week. He made 2 starts for the PawSox, going 2-0 while pitching 12.0 innings and allowing just 9 baserunners for a WHIP of 0.75.
