Hazelbaker homers, steals fiftieth base in big win

8/8 Cup of Coffee: Greenville burst out for double-digits once again Saturday night, while Lowell's bullpen held on to give one of their starter's a well-deserved win.

Starter Ramon A. Ramirez allowed 3 home runs in Pawtucket's 6-1 loss to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (NYY). He was charged with 5 runs, 4 earned in 6.1 innings for work, with freshly-minted reliever Robert Coello tossing 1.2 scoreless frames and Michael Bowden allowing a run on 3 hits in an inning of work. Aaron Bates had 2 hits and an RBI, while Lars Anderson and Yamaico Navarro doubled in the loss.

Eighth runs in the first three innings was enough for Portland's 9-6 win over Richmond (SF). Ray Chang hit a two-run first inning home run and drove in three runs, and Luis Exposito added a three-run double in the third. Blake Maxwell allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 5.0 before Daniel Turpen allowed 4 runs, 3 earned in an inning of relief. Ryan Khoury and Matt Sheely had three hits apiece, while Chih-Hsien Chiang added a solo home run. Ryne Reynoso tossed 2.0 perfect innings of relief, and Jason Rice struck out 2 in the ninth for his 11th save of the season.

Caleb Clay picked up his 11th loss of the season, allowing all 4 runs in Salem's 4-1 loss to Wilmington (KC). Clay went 7.0 innings, while Zach Hammes and Cesar Cabral each allowed a hit in an inning of scoreless relief. The Red Sox managed just 5 hits, with the lone running coming when Ryan Dent singled to score Will Middlebrooks in the fourth.

Jeremy Hazelbaker and Reynaldo Rodriguez each homered as Greenville's offense caught fire again, trouncing Rome (ATL) 12-6. Hazelbaker was 3 for 4, adding a double and driving in 4, and Ken Roque was 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles and 1 driven in. Reymond Fuentes drove in 2, and Rodriguez chipped in 3 RBI in the win. Pete Ruiz, Armando Zerpa, and Anatanear Batista each allowed 2 runs, with Ruiz going 6.2 innings and allowing 7 hits with 4 strikeouts.

After Miguel Celestino allowed just a single earned run in 5.0 innings of work, the Lowell bullpen finally held a lead as they snuck past Auburn (TOR) 4-3. Bryce Brentz put the Spinners ahead for good with a two-run shot, his second of the season, in the sixth inning, with Miles Head driving in the other 2 Lowell runs. Celestino struck out 5 to move to 2-0 with Lowell, and Charle Rosario gave up a run in 2.0 innings before Wilson Matos and Tyler Lockwood held on for a scoreless eighth and ninth.

They only got to play six innings, but the GCL Red Sox fell 3-2 to the Twins. Eric Curtis allowed 2 runs in the first, and Mike Gleason allowed the winning run in the fourth before Matt Curtis struck out 2 in the sixth. Trygg Danforth and Luke Yoder each hit solo home runs in the loss.

Player of the Night: Jeremy Hazelbaker continued his scorching stretch Saturday, going 3 for 3 with a walk, a three-run home run and an RBI double. He scored 3 runs and also added stolen base number 50 on the season.
