Ryan Shealy called up to Boston

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports has reported that the Red Sox have called up Ryan Shealy from Triple-A Pawtucket. Signed to a minor league contract on June 17th after opting out of his deal with the Tampa Bay, Shealy hit .246 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI in 61 at bats with Pawtucket. His last appearance in the major leagues was in 2008, when he hit .301 with 7 homers and 20 RBI in 20 games with Kansas City. He will provide immediate cover for first basemen Kevin Youkilis, who left last night's game with ankle pain.

Indications are that Youkilis will return to the lineup tonight, but manager Terry Francona said this afternoon that a roster move would be made today to be safe. The corresponding move to create a roster spot for Shealy has not yet been made.
