Players of the Month, June: Ryan Lavarnway & Kyle Weiland
Two top-twenty prospects, Portland's Kyle Weiland (#17) and Salem's Ryan Lavarnway (#20) with something to prove impressed the SoxProspects.com staff and were named the Players of the Month of June.
Following up on a solid May, Weiland continued to put distance between himself and his awful April making solid starts in 4 of his 5 June outings for a 3-1 record with a 2.67 ERA, allowing 8 runs on 18 hits over 27.0 innings, striking out 30 while walking only 9 and holding opposing batters to an .191 BAA.

By contrast, Lavarnway bounced back from a May which he hit for power but saw his batting average drop by over 100 points and his OBP by nearly 70 from his stellar April marks, to post a .337/.434/.526 line in 25 June games over 95 AB, with 3 home runs and 9 doubles, batting in 20 runs while scoring 19. He also took 13 bases on balls (vs. 23 strike outs). This is his second SoxProspects.com Player of the Month award in 2010, having previously won in April.
Lavarnway, 22, is hitting .305/.398/.520 with 14 home runs, 17 doubles, 61 RBI and 60 runs scored, in 275 AB over 73 games thus far in 2010. Weiland, 23, owns a 4-5 record in 14 starts on the year with a 3.95 ERA, having allowed 31 runs on 55 hits over 70.2 innings, for a .217 BAA, striking out 67 and walking 29.
