Reddick promoted, Atchison optioned

Outfielder Josh Reddick was promoted from Triple-A Pawtucket today after a string of injuries to Boston outfielders. Reliever Scott Atchison was optioned to Triple-A to make room on the 25-man roster.

After hitting at a torrid pace for the Red Sox during spring training, to the tune of .390/.413/.678, Reddick struggled to start the season with the PawSox. During his time in Triple-A this year he put up a line of .191/.241/.362 to go along with 6 homers. He opened the season as the number two prospect on SoxProspects.com’s rankings, but has fallen to the current spot he holds at eight. However, multiple spectators have said that he has begun to square up the ball hard in the last couple weeks, but often right at a fielder including getting robbed of a home run on May 31.

Atchison has appeared in nine games for the Red Sox this year, posting an ERA of 4.50 with 10 strikeouts in 14.0 innings.

This move is likely temporary since right-hander Boof Bonser is expected to be called up on Monday. The counter-move for that could be Jeremy Hermida to the disabled list since he went to the hospital to have a CT scan after complaining of soreness in his chest/side this afternoon.
