Red Sox sign Kendrick Perkins
(Ed.'s note: The following report has was retracted on Sunday, June 13.)
Sixth-round pick Kendrick Perkins will forego his commitment to Texas A&M to sign with the Red Sox in the next few days, according to Evan Brunell of Fire Brand. The outfielder will report to Extended Spring Training in Florida to begin his professional career. The terms of the agreement are unknown at this time.
Perkins, 18, is an excellent athlete, posessing above-average speed and power-potential. He was a star running back in high school, but said he always wanted to focus on baseball over football in the long-run. He projects to be able stay in center field defensively, but is a bit raw all-around and will take some time to develop.
