Red Sox select Kendrick Perkins in the sixth round
With the team's sixth-round pick the Red Sox have selected La Porte HS center fielder Kendrick Perkins. This is the fourth consecutive high school pick for Boston after selecting college players with their first four selections.
Perkins, 18, is listed at 6'2", 225 and bats from the left-hand side of the plate. Considered a tough sign due to his strong commitment to Texas A&M, Perkins is a tremendous athlete who has plus speed and power and has drawn comparisons to Carl Crawford. Perkins was a star running back in high school before he dedicated himself to baseball full time. His plus speed, power and throwing arm should allow him to stay in center or play a corner position as a professional. Many scouts believe Perkins needs to gain more experience and refine his defensive skills in order to have a solid professional career.
