Red Sox select Jacob Dahlstrand in the tenth round
With the team's tenth-round selection, 323rd overall, the Red Sox selected Jacob Dahlstrand, a right-handed pitcher from Memorial High School in Houston, Texas. A presence on the mound, he is listed at 6'5", 205 pounds.
Dahlstrand, 18, is committed to the University of Houston. Scouts love his projectability based on his already-imposing size and the fact he throws an 88-93 mph sinker. His secondary pitches are a work in progress, and he has struggled with control at times throughout his career due to an inconsistent release point. He is thought to be willing to sign and could use some coaching to polish his delivery. Dahlstrand has grown up idolizing Josh Beckett, and he lists the Red Sox as his favorite team.
